WHO WE ARE

Steve Terry is an award winning ARB Registered, RIBA Chartered Architect and Associate Lecturer who combines practice, making, teaching and research. Before setting up his own sole practice in 2017 Steve worked for Louise Crossman Architects, based in Somerset and Devon, as Architect and Associate Director, and prior to this worked at White Design and Stride Treglown in Bristol. Steve is also a design studio cluster leader at the University of the West of England in Bristol working with final year Architecture Part 1 BSc students, and is a Part 3 examiner.

Steve has experience in a number of sectors including private residential, developer and rural social housing, retrofit, education and mixed-use commercial; with particular skills and knowledge in the creative re-use of existing buildings, low energy and passive sustainable design, and contemporary extensions and new builds.

Prior to entering the construction industry Steve worked as an engineer and product delivery manager in the manufacturing industry where he initially studied as an electrical engineer, worked through production engineering, then overseeing production engineering, planning and the assembly, inspection and testing workshops. During this time he worked with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and software engineering systems, and gained an MBA Diploma in Business Management. Taking the decision to then re-train and follow his passion for architecture, Steve achieved a first degree as an Architectural Technologist at the University of the West of England, and then continued his full time education whilst working to gain distinctions becoming a fully qualified Architect. He was invited to return to UWE in 2012 as a design studio tutor, which he continues today. Throughout his varied career Steve has a long standing interest for sustainable design, detailing and construction, and a practical hands-on and enquiring approach; learning from and sharing knowledge with others.

steve terry · architects has been set up to run as a climate focused collaborative design studio and making workshop - working with local consultants, engineers, specialists, contractors, artists and architects. We have no ambition to become a commercially-led practice, instead wishing to focus on a small number of low carbon sustainable design using local natural place specific materials, whilst regenerating the surrounding landscape and environments. Working as a sole practitioner - Steve personally delivers a limited number of successful, bespoke, carefully detailed projects each year through collaboration, investigation and research.
